MUSIC & ART: Bob Ross Speed Paints to James Horner

Two things here
Watch Bob Ross speed paint
As you listen to this beautiful song
From the film, Braveheart

I loved his program on PBS.
I admired his attitude and his enthusiasm for painting
He was very influential to me taking up painting.

"Robert Norman "Bob" Ross (October 29, 1942–July 4, 1995) was an American painter, art instructor, and television host. He is best known as the creator and host of The Joy of Painting, a television program that aired on PBS from 1983 to 1994. The mellow man who spoke gently and carried a giant palette, died in 1995 of cancer at age 52.

When asked about his laid-back approach to painting and eternally calm and contented demeanor, he once commented: "I got a letter from somebody here a while back, and they said, 'Bob, everything in your world seems to be happy.' That's for sure. That's why I paint. It's because I can create the kind of world that I want, and I can make this world as happy as I want it. Shoot, if you want bad stuff, watch the news." Quotes from Bob Ross
(A man I admire)

~*~

There are no mistakes - just happy accidents.

~*~

The secret to doing anything
is believing that you can do it.
Anything that you believe you can do
strong enough,
you can do.
Anything.
As long as you believe.

~*~

We want happy paintings.
Happy paintings.
If you want sad things,
watch the news.

~*~

Traditionally, art has been for the select few. We have been brainwashed to believe that Michelangelo had to pat you on the head at birth. Well, we show people that anybody can paint a picture that they're proud of. It may never hang in the Smithsonian, but it will certainly be something that they'll hang in their home and be proud of. And that's what it's all about.

~*~

Gotta have opposites dark and light,
light and dark in painting.
It's like in life.
Gotta have a little sadness once in a while
so you know when the good time come.
I'm waiting on the good times now.

~*~

"I'd like to wish you happy painting,
and God bless my friend."

AOM Meditations: Smile

When I see someone smile, I know immediately that he or she is dwelling in awareness.  This half-smile, how many artists have labored to bring it to the lips of countless statues and paintings?  I am sure the same smile must have been on the faces of the sculptors and painters as they worked.  Can you imagine an angry painter giving birth to such a smile?  Mona Lisa's smile is light, just a hint of a smile.  Yet even a smile like that is enough to relax all the muscles in our face, to banish all worries and fatigue.  A tiny bud of a smile on our lips nourishes awareness and calms us miraculously.  It returns us to the peace we thought we had lost.
